Irving Thomas "Pawsie" Carnes, 88, of Burlington passed away peacefully at Alamance Regional Medical Center on Sunday, March 12, 2023 after several weeks of declining health.
A native of Loudoun County, VA, he was the husband of the late Iretta Mae Cooper Carnes and the son of Maurice Carnes and Ruby Loy Carnes, both deceased. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army National Guard stationed in Germany. While stationed in Germany, he played on a Championship Soccer team. Irving was a hard worker from a very young age. He worked as a Produce Department Manager for the food industry. He enjoyed the simple life and taking care of his family. His hobbies included fishing and reading. He was a member of Burlington Assembly of God.
Survivors include his son, Thomas Franklin Carnes and wife Donna of Haw River; daughter, Pamela Carnes Ludwig of Mebane; four grandchildren who gave him the name "Pawsie", Joseph Lee Ludwig of Oregon, Staci Amber Ludwig and partner Shaun Anthony Cinson of Burlington, Michelle Constance-Mae Carnes of Haw River, and Brittany Carnes Melancon and husband Harris Adams Melancon of Marrero, LA; two great grandchildren, Kai Anthony Cinson and Scout Isabelle Cinson; and one sister, Delores Price of Leasburg, VA. He was preceded in death by a brother, Alton Carnes.
The funeral service will be conducted at Burlington Assembly of God on Saturday, March 18, 2023 at 4:00 p.m. The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 4:00 p.m. prior to the service. A private entombment will take place at the Mausoleum at Mt. Hebron Cemetery, Winchester, VA.
