Spirited young at heart; born to be free in Oxnard, California, April 26, 1961. A daughter of Eleno and Micaela de la Torre, Irma Esther was the eleventh child of thirteen. Raised in Santa Paula and in Oxnard she attended schools first at St. Sebastian Elementary, Larson, Blackstock Junior High, and Channel Islands High School. Then onto college obtaining her B.A. degree at UC Santa Barbara like many of her siblings, nephews and nieces. She was a California credentialed school teacher in Special Education with a Master's degree in Education. Her latest teaching position was in Palmdale.
In taking her life's journey she faced many challenges with bravery and always took it one step at a time, calling on friends and family along the way. Irma was a single parent. Her son Matthew inherited her love of animals like her parents. The first family dog was "Happy" and then her most beloved pet "Pepper" a large German Shepherd which in her childhood she rode like a pony. She loved music of all kinds from classical to Hard Rock, Tupac and of course the music shown to her by her parents whom she always kept in her heart.
Irma moved to numerous locations in her struggle to support herself and her son but she always reached out to first her parents and her siblings. Yes, each step wasn't easy but Irma had many friends some to her were like family. We all got to know her and to love her and our lives are better for it. She leaves all of us to go on in her memory: her son Matthew, her many siblings now eleven?Albert the first in Heaven?and her many nephews and nieces some with children of their own. May Irma Esther De La Torre, one of God's beloved children live in his glory forever with both her parents and brother and niece Eileen in a mansion with many rooms for all.
