Irma K. Cameron passed away peacefully at a hospice facility in Naples, Florida on July 2, 2022 at 7:22 p.m. following a decades-long battle with Lupus SLE, which compromised over the years many of her critical organs.
She was born on December 25, 1948 in Rovaniemi, Finland on the Arctic Circle. As a young woman, she immigrated to the United States with her baby son Jari, initially settling in Cloquet, Minnesota.
Most of her professional career was with General Mills Corporation in Golden Valley, Minnesota. Her experience included managing the Tampa, Florida sales office and managing the corporate Consumer Relations department. As the manager of Consumer Relations, she often was an honored guest speaker at university business programs and at consumer relations conferences sharing her expertise.
She retired from General Mills in 1988 and joined her husband (Jerry) in relocating to the Seattle and Tacoma area of Washington state in 1991. While in the Northwest, Irma awoke her artistic passion and became an avid glass fusionist. Much of her glass art can be found in hospital and clinic facilities at Tacoma General and Mary Bridge Children's hospitals in Tacoma and at Children's Minnesota facilities in Minneapolis and St. Paul.
Irma and her husband Jerry returned to Minnesota in 1994 where she continued her passion for glass art until she lost the strength in her hands to cut glass. In 2015 with Jerry's retirement from Children's Minnesota, Irma relocated to their retirement home in Naples, Florida.
Despite her health challenges, Irma remained a sharp, generous, and an engaging person who loved life and people.
Irma leaves behind her beloved husband, Jerry Massmann, of 37 years, her son, Jari Kosola, and daughter-in-law, Jenna Kosola. She was preceded in death by her mother, Laura Karvonen, father, Antti Napankangas, brother, Pentti Karvonen, and sister, Kaija Majatta Koskimies
We will have two open houses to celebrate Irma: on Saturday, 7/16/22, from 3pm - 5pm at the Wellington II Clubhouse in the Kensington Community for our Florida friends and on Tuesday, 8/16/22, from 5pm - 7pm at the Golden Valley Country Club - Somerset Hills Room for our Minnesota friends and family.
