On November 3, 2023, the family of Irma Janice Barnes said goodbye to their beloved Mother. Mrs. Barnes, a long-time resident of Farmington, New Mexico, began life April 3, 1934 in Tampa, Florida. She graduated nurses training in Jacksonville, where she met a handsome navy corpsman and a short time later married Donald S. Barnes before he shipped out to Okinawa. After he completed his military service, Don and Irma moved to West Texas, then settled in Farmington, New Mexico. Don worked for Amoco and Tenneco, Irma continued her nursing career at San Juan Hospital, completing it seventeen years later as a registered nurse for Doctors Ritzenthaler, Hume and Mcgonegal. After living in Denver for several years, the couple returned to Farmington where Don finished his career and retired.
After Don's passing in 1994, Irma returned to Colorado to live closer to family. She is survived by her son Robert (Leslie) Barnes of Katy, Texas, daughters Donnell (Les) Bell of Las Cruces, New Mexico and Maria Small (Eric Barber) of Littleton, Colorado. Grandchildren include Audra (Brooklyn) Bell, David (Melanie) Bell, Anna Small (Zach Ring), and Bryan Small. Additionally, Irma leaves behind seven great grandchildren.
Recitation of the Rosary Monday, November 20, 2023, 10:30 am, Funeral Mass 11:00 am, both at Light of the World Catholic Church, 10306 W. Bowles Ave., Littleton, CO 80127. Mrs. Barnes will join her husband in her final resting place in Farmington, New Mexico.
