Irene Plocica, affectionately known to many as Babcia, passed away on April 4, 2018 at the age of 91. She most recently lived in Spring Hill, Florida, north of Tampa, after moving there from St. Louis, Missouri, to be near her son, Tony, and daughter-in-law Suzanne.
She was born in Bialystock, Poland, and moved to Manchester, England, after World War II ended, with her parents and siblings. She met her husband, Stanley, in the Polish Army while driving an army truck and they married in England in 1948. In the 1960’s, Irene and Stanley followed the American dream and moved to St. Louis, Missouri where they quickly became involved in the Polish community through their church St. Stanislaus. Irene worked for Bussman Fuses until she retired in the 1980's.
Babcia taught us to keep a smile on our face during tough times (and photos), enjoy friendships and to cherish the simple things in life. From her love of language (Polish, Russian, German and English), friends, crochet, sewing, guitar, songs, nature, and Polish traditions she was one of a kind! We all miss her terribly, but we know her spunk has passed down to her granddaughters and great-granddaughters. She leaves son Antony and daughter-in-law Suzanne Plocica of Spring Hill, FL; granddaughter Kristina Donovan, and great-granddaughters Zoe, and Claudia of Windsor, IL; granddaughter Lisa Eddy, and husband Andrew, and great-granddaughters Katherine and Alexandra of Santa Monica, CA.
A mass is scheduled at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 12, 2018, followed by a memorial at Bethlehem Cemetery in Bellefontaine Neighbors in St Louis, MO.
