Irene M. (Penski) Dalterio, 79, of Athol, MA passed peacefully Jan.19, 2021 after a hard-fought battle with Parkinson's. She was a resident at Royal Cotuit nursing facility. Born Feb. 28, 1941 in Athol, she was the daughter of the late Sigmond and Agnes (Dargelis) Penski.
She was a graduate of Athol High School, Fisher Jr. College and American University. While attending American University in D.C. she was a foreign translation shorthand specialist for the Central Intelligence Agency where she remained until the mid-1960's. She returned to Athol where she met her husband of 53 yrs. John Dalterio Sr. before moving to Cape Cod in the mid- 1980's where she worked at the Registry of Deeds, Barnstable, before returning to Athol once again.
Irene was an avid golfer, a former member of Ellinwood C.C., and Olde Barnstable Fairgrounds C.C. She enjoyed participating in the Cape Cod Women's Golf league and the Worcester County Women's Golf league. She also enjoyed traveling and watching her NE Patriots and Boston Bruins, especially with one of her collies, Monty and Tango.
Along with her loving husband John Sr., "The Nana", as the grand kids called her, leaves behind a son John "Jay" Dalterio and his wife Susan (Martin) of Cotuit, two grandsons: Caleb Dalterio and Dillon Vigneau of Cotuit, three granddaughters: Christina Vigneau (Cotuit), Kaitlynn Deluca (Salem, NH) and Justine Heise (Hyannis). She also leaves three great grandchildren: Dominic and Cameron Heise, and Gia Deluca and a stepdaughter Paula Jean (Dalterio) Lamoreux (Pomfret Center, CT)
Irene's interment will be at a later date at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
