Irene E. Clouse, 85, of Cheshire, our beloved Mom and "Nanny" who touched the hearts and lives of so many and genuinely loved by all those who knew her, was called home to be with the Lord after a brief illness on Sunday, January 16, 2022, with her loving family by her side. Irene was predeceased by her loving husband Harry B. Clouse of 55 years. She was born on July 21, 1936 in New Haven, daughter of the late Joseph and Ethel (Hannsman) Landa. Irene was a resident of Hamden, CT, for 45 years, before moving to Cheshire. Irene was a graduate of Hill House High School, New Haven. Prior to her retirement, Irene worked as an insurance agent for Adams Insurance Agency in Hamden. Irene is survived by her three loving daughters, Catherine Stern of Cheshire, Elizabeth Cusano of Cheshire, and Karolyn DeGrand (Robert) of Wallingford. Irene was predeceased by her daughter, Linda Jean Clouse. Her love for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren was boundless. She was the proud grandmother of five adoring grandchildren: Jonathan Stern (Kristi) of Venice, FL, Matt DeGrand (Christie) of Portland, CT, Caitlin Boots (Jordan) of Wallingford, CT, and Alexandra and Tyler Cusano of North Haven, CT and happiest when playing with her great-grandchildren Reygan and Leila Stern, whom she treasured. Irene is also survived by her brother Edward Landa of Hayesville, NC and several nieces and nephews. Irene also leaves behind her cherished dog, Max, who provided much needed comfort and love to Irene during the isolating days of the pandemic. Irene was also an avid baker and for many years would provide "Southwick Cafe" with her baked delicacies every week. Irene enjoyed visiting with neighbors and friends and sharing her numerous variety of herbal teas. Irene was a skilled seamstress and enjoyed knitting beautiful afghans, as well as scarves, mittens, hats. She loved to swim, ride her bike, and work on puzzles. But most of all, above all else, Irene loved spending as much time as possible with her family. Irene was a faithful parishioner of St. Thomas Beckett Church, Cheshire. Due to the pandemic, Irene's Mass of Christian Burial will take place at a later date. Internment will be private and at the convenience of the family. A memorial celebration in memory of Irene's life will take place in the springtime and will be announced by her family. Sisk Brothers Funeral home, 3105 Whitney Ave., Hamden, CT.
