Our Mother, Irene (Kinney) Baker, aged 95 (and 1/2 she'd tell you!) of Charlestown passed away at her home on November 18, 2023. She lived her life for her family & spared no effort to help us whenever we asked. We owe all successes in life to our mom, who was beautiful inside & out.
She was kind, generous & gracious with a touch of rowdy & a streak of vanity. She was the life of the party & loved to play pranks & tell "naughty" jokes. She was described recently as "sparkly."
She was a fantastic seamstress & had artistic talents in many areas, constructing amazing holiday displays & remarkable costumes. Irene spent years creating gorgeous crafts & clothing and attended juried craft events & fairs. She had a natural green thumb and grew beautiful gardens. Her yard was meticulously cared for and the envy of many.
Mom's reality-based mothering made us strong & resilient. When we were small; mom was active in the PTA, as a Cub Scout Den Mother & Brownie Leader. Being raised in a large family during The Great Depression made her sensible, frugal & yet generous with a huge heart. It has been said that she'd walk 5 miles to save $1 and then give it away.
She was married to our Dad, Deryl (Thead) Baker on January 11, 1945. He predeceased her in 2007 after 62 years of marriage. Irene was born in Saxtons River, Vt and is predeceased by 17 siblings. She is also predeceased by the son-in-law she adored, Dana.
Mom was a hard worker her entire life. She worked in a nursing home as a young girl, in a shoe shop during the war, rehabbing homes with her husband for decades & was employed by Hubbard Farms in Walpole for many years.
She leaves behind 3 children, Jennifer (Mark), Jeffrey (Ginny), & Brenda. Grandchildren Jay, Ben, Heath, Gavin, Scott, Larsson, Brittney, Jackie and Frank, 9 great grandchildren & 1 great-great grandchild.
Mom was not a particularly religious woman, but she was spiritual & her spirit lives on. We Love and Miss You Already, Momma! Services will be at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at the Charlestown Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow at Pinecrest Cemetery, and a reception will be held in the community room under the Silsby Library from 2:30PM- 4:30PM.
