OREGON, Wis. - Ira Samuel "Sam" King, age 74, of Oregon, passed away on Monday, Oct. 18, 2021.
He was born on Nov. 16, 1946, in Herrin, Ill., the son of Jewell and Ester (Stacey) King.
Sam grew up in Franklin Gove, Ill., and graduated from Franklin Grove High School in Franklin Grove, Ill. He was a political science student at Southern University Carbondale.
Sam married Darlene Burgess on Sept. 16, 1966, in Dixon, Ill., and then again on Dec. 7, 2007, in Oregon, Wis. He moved to Wisconsin in 1985 and was employed in the insurance industry and later became a realtor. Sam enjoyed spending time with his family and playing games. He loved to collect baseball and football cards and enjoyed playing fantasy football. He enjoyed taking vacations to Branson, Mo.
Sam is survived by his wife, Darlene; daughter, Sheila King; brothers, Daniel (Sue) King and Jeffrey (Marion) King; sister, Pamela (Patrick) Hochstein; aunt, Kay (Bill) Whittington; sister-in-law, Rhoda (Robert) Riggs; brothers-in-law, Coy Harlow (Carol) Burgess, Roy Trenton (Sharon) Burgess and Randy G. (Amy) Burgess; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by son, Ira S. "Skip" King, Jr.; and his parents.
A celebration of life will be held at ABIDING WORD CHURCH, 806 E. Lynn Blvd., Sterling, Ill., at 12 noon on Saturday, Oct. 30, 2021, with a luncheon to follow. A visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday, Oct. 30, 2021.
