Imogene Wieser (Imy) Christian, 90, went to meet her Lord on March 13, 2022.
Services were held on Saturday, April 2, in Texas City, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, J.B. and Estella Wieser, her late husband, Harold; her long-time golfing companion, Col. Tom Sledge; brother, Jarvis Wieser, and his wife, Jean; sister, Jeanette, Wieser, and brother-in-law, Bill Schnerr.
She is survived by two children: son, David and wife, Carol, of Tomball, and daughter, Carol, of Dickinson; four grandchildren, seven great-grandsons and two great-granddaughters.
She is also survived by her sister, Bernice Schnerr of Austin and a brother, Mark Wieser of Fredericksburg.
Imogene was born on Feb. 26, 1932, in Fredericks- burg. With a strong sense of achievement, she excelled in academics and sports. She gave 100% to whatever she set her mind.
She was called "Big Wieser" by the sports staff at KNAF because of her height and was co-captain of Fredericksburg High School's girls' basketball teams that won the State Championships both in 1948 and 1949. "Little Wieser" was her younger sister, Bernice, who also was on these teams. Imy was named MVP of the 1949 Tournament. She graduated with honors from FHS as her class salutatorian.
Attending Southwest Texas State Teachers College, she earned a Bachelor's and Master's of Education within four years. She first taught in Kingsville, Texas, where she met her future husband, Harold Christian. They were married in 1954 and made their home in Texas City, Texas.
She taught there for 58 years and was named Texas City's Teacher of the Year in 1978.
She retired from public schools in 1992 but continued her passion for education by teaching English and math at the College of the Mainland in Texas City. She retired in 2011.
Imogene was active in the American Association of University Women, and Delta Kappa Gamma, Texas State Teachers Association, the Mainland Retired Teachers Association, an officer of the Texas City Civics Club, and a member of the Texas City PTA.
She was also a Deacon of her church where she was active in fundraising, Bible study, Sunday school and helping in the kitchen.
Her life was filled with bridge, dance and entertainment. She discovered golf after her retirement and became an avid and determined golfer.
While most golfers might dream of making a hole in one. Imy made three ? one when playing in a tournament! Imogene also loved to travel, including visits to China, Egypt, Peru, Australia, New Zealand, and multiple trips to Europe, including her father's childhood home in Germany.
Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery at a later date.
Her family requests that those wishing to honor her life make a charitable donation to their favorite charity.
