Imogene King Giles passed away at age 101 on Monday, February 21, 2022. She had a quick wit and humor until her last days. She was born on July 5, 1920, and lived almost her entire life in Westminster, SC. She was preceded in death by her husband, Chesley Daniel Giles, their son, Chesley Daniel Giles, Jr., her parents, James Arthur King and Sudie Jones King and two sisters, Sallie Mae (King) Harbin and Olive (King) Hill. Imogene had a full life and loved her family. She and her husband worked in airplane factories in Marietta, GA and Baltimore, MD during WWII. Her favorite memories included going on family picnics together at Oconee State Park, going to the beach in Panama City, FL with her husband, and later, traveling to Myrtle Beach, SC with her son's family. She also had fond memories of traveling on the train growing up. She loved to reminisce about her father being a ticket agent with Southern Railway and being able to travel by train as a teenager and young adult in the 1930s-40s. She also enjoyed crocheting, decoupage, and collecting and selling antique dishes and other items. As an avid reader, she loved to keep up with current events and kept her mind sharp. She was a faithful member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and cherished her years with her friends there. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Judith Giles, her granddaughter, Wendi Giles Byas and husband, Karl Byas, and two great grandchildren Kelly and Owen Byas, in addition to many nieces and nephews. Imogene lived her final years at Stanley Total Living Center in Stanley, NC where she continually remarked about how kind the people were who took care of her there. In appreciation for the love and care Imogene received, memorials may be sent to Westminster Presbyterian Church, 204 N. Isundega St., Westminster, SC 29693, or to Stanley Total Living Center, P.O. Box 489, Stanley, NC 28164. A graveside service will be held on a later date at Oconee Memorial Gardens, Seneca, SC. Condolence messages may be sent to the family by visiting www.woodlawnfuneral.org.
