Ida Joan Krampitz Stewart was born in upstate New York, on August 25, 1935, to Adolf and Laura Krampitz. She is predeceased by her siblings Edith Krampitz and Donald Ellison. A child of the Great Depression, Ida was orphaned at the age of eleven and raised by relatives. After high school she moved to Buffalo, NY where she modeled and worked for the NY Telephone and Telegraph Company and met her husband Tommy Dean Stewart. The couple soon married and settled in Giants Neck Beach in Niantic, Connecticut to raise their family.
Ida lost her husband Tommy in a tragic accident in 1970, becoming a young widow with four children at the age of 35. As a single mother Ida returned to work, running the first local Ticketron at the Kaplan Travel Agency in New London, Ct. She was a member of the Niantic Baptist Church. Ida was a people person and had many friends. She loved the beach, loved to travel, had a keen interest in astrology, enjoyed music and loved to dance.
After her children were grown, Ida relocated to Alexandria, VA to work for Spa Lady Inc. for many years. She later moved to Leesburg, VA and worked for Xerox Corporation until she retired. In 2005 Ida moved to rural southern Virginia to be near her children and lived a quiet country life. She enjoyed the native wildlife, was an animal lover and an avid bird watcher.
Ida passed peacefully in her sleep on April 21, 2022 at the age of 86. She is survived by her children and their families; her daughter Roberta Leiphart and son in law Charlie Leiphart of Hurt, VA., her daughter Sally Stewart and granddaughter Amber Almario-Green and her husband Nate Green, and their children Forrest Whitaker Green, Andiora, Evelyn, and Jackson Green, all of Hurt, VA., her grandson Mitchell Almario of Winchester, VA., her son Jeff Stewart and daughter in law Lindy Stewart of Hurt, VA., her grandson Jesse Stewart and his wife Paige Stewart of Bedford, VA., and her son Russell Stewart who is predeceased by his wife Jodi Gorin Stewart, and grandson Tommy Stewart, of Idaho Springs, CO.
Ida was a strong, independent woman who weathered many changes of scenery and circumstance in her long life. She was a firm believer that youth was not a time of life, but rather a state of mind. She lived well, laughed often, and loved much. She will be missed.
A private memorial service will be held at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home in Gretna, VA. Ida will be laid to rest next to her husband Tommy at Cedar Grove Cemetery, in New London, Ct.
