Erlewein Mortuary
Ian James Spann, passed away on November 26, 2024, at the age of 21. He was born on January 12, 2003, in Indianapolis, Indiana to Catherine (John Russell) Spann and Scott (Marla) Spann. Ian graduated from Mt Vernon High School in 2021 and worked several jobs before finding his calling as a Detention Deputy (Corrections Officer) with the Marion County Sheriff's Department. Ian was working his way to becoming a 5-Point Deputy and talked about going to the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy to continue his career in law enforcement.
Ian was a very friendly and outgoing person; he never met a stranger and was always willing to help a friend. He loved to go camping, even if he never got out as much as he wanted to, and spending time with his friends around a bonfire. His flair for storytelling was second to none, and he loved to spontaneously call or stop in on someone. He especially loved playing with his niece Charlotte and nephew Hunter.
Ian is survived by his parents mentioned above; older brothers, Kurtis Spann; Darian Spann; older sister, Kayla (Andrew) Defiore; grandparents, James and Marie Craig; and grandmother, Marianna (Tony) Mosley. He is proceeded in death by his grandfather, Jeffrey Spann.
A memorial gathering will be held on Thursday, December 12, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, December 13, 2024, at the mortuary. Fr. Aaron Jenkins from St. Michael Catholic Church will officiate.
