Huiberdina "Dina" J. Gerlach May 25, 2022 Huiberdina "Dina" Gerlach passed away peacefully on May 25, 2022 at the age of 95. Born in Rotterdam, Holland in 1926, she emigrated with her family to the United States in 1956. She resided for most of her adult life in the Valley neighborhood of Syracuse until moving to Camillus in 1993. Dina loved her family and enjoyed taking her grandchildren and great grandchildren on many adventures with her husband and love of her life, Henk. They loved retelling stories of the good times they had together on these adventures. Dina loved to knit and was very good at it. Her knitted goods were donated to area churches and hospitals for fund raisers. Many newborns went home from the hospital with one of her knitted hats. All the many people she knew were gifted with a layette set for a new child that she lovingly knit especially for them. Dina and husband Henk spent hundreds of hours volunteering at Community Hospital on the 6th West Floor doing whatever they could, helping staff care for the patients who resided there. If not volunteering, she and Henk loved to go for drives, going as far as Ithaca for a cup of coffee. Dina also spent many hours with her best friend, Muriel, going to shows, concerts, book club and church circle meetings. Although Dina's stay was short, her family would like to thank the staff at Fahey Rehab for the wonderful care she received. Also, we'd like to thank Tiffany and Lori for their compassionate help with Dina, Robert Polachek, MD, and the staff who cared for her, always keeping her best interest in mind. Dina is predeceased by her parents. Edward and Jacoba Hogerdyk; and her loving husband of 63 years, Hendrikus (Henk) Gerlach. Dina is survived by her daughter, Astrid (Alan) Hunter; grandchildren, Karen Hunter, Krista (Lindsey) Hunter, Anneke Hunter (Jermaine Savoires), Benjamin Hunter (Lindsey); and great-grandchildren, Jordan Hunter, Aliyah Vasquez, Danika and Aisley Hunter, Alan and Johanna Hunter. There will be no calling hours. There will be a private graveside service at Onondaga Valley Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please consider a gift in Dina's memory to Helping Hounds Dog Rescue, or the Food Bank of CNY. Share condolences at www.BuranichFH.com (http://www.BuranichFH.com)
