Hugh Edward Hall, Jr., 95, of Winchester, passed away on Saturday, January 2, 2021.
He was born in Sherman, TX on November 18, 1925, the son of Hugh Edward and Mida (Holsapple) Hall.
Hugh graduated from Sherman High School in 1943, and honorably served in the United States Navy during World War II.
He married the love of his life Doris Elyse Karisch on August 6, 1950 at Travis Street Methodist Church in La Grange, TX.
Hugh graduated in 1949 with a BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Texas in Austin, TX. He received his Master's Degree in Nuclear Physics in 1955, and his Ph.D in 1959 from Rice University, in Houston, TX.
He worked for Texaco in Bellaire, TX in well logging research. After retiring from Texaco in 1967, Hugh began teaching Physics at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, TX. After fully retiring in 2000 he became Professor Emeritus at Sam Houston.
Hugh was a member of St. Michael's Lutheran Church of Winchester; the Rabbs Creek Wildlife Management Association; the American Physical Society; Society of Professional Well Logging Analysts; and the Mineral-Geotechnical Logging Society. He also taught Sunday School at Bethany Methodist Church in Houston, TX and First United Methodist Church in Huntsville, TX.
Hugh enjoyed being able to volunteer and give back to the community. He instilled important values in his daughters that they have passed down to their own families, such as "the importance of education, always helping others in need, and always being productive in what you do." Another important aspect of life, to him was, "to leave this world a better place, than the way you found it."
He is survived by three daughters: Dawn Eppers and husband, Raymond of Bryan, TX; Dixie Gray of Austin, TX; Dana Hall of Winchester, TX; one brother Clyde Hall of Sherman, TX; five grandchildren: Kelly Sanchez and husband, Michael; Christopher Gray and wife, Mercedes all of Austin, TX; Nathan Eppers and Matthew Eppers of Bryan, TX; and Elyse Sutphen and husband, Stephen of Iola, TX; nine great-grandchildren: Mackenzie and Faith Eppers; Joshua, Jacob, and Jace Sutphen; Myka and Gray Sanchez; and Wyatt and Nolan Gray.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Doris (Karisch) Hall; brother, Bill Gordon and wife, Carolyn; sister-in-law, Ginny Hall; as well as his faithful pug, "Puppy" that he treasured as well.
In an abundance of caution due to the recent COVID-19 operating procedures, the funeral home will be following the recommendations of the Governor and County Judge. Facemasks must be worn in the funeral home and social distancing up to six feet apart must be observed.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 7, 2021 from 12:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Koenig-Belvill Funeral Home & Cremations. The family will not be present to receive friends.
Funeral Services will be held at St. Michael's Lutheran Church in Winchester, at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 8, 2021. Burial will follow at the Winchester City Cemetery.
