Help us celebrate Hugh! Please share your stories and photos, and invite others who remember Hugh.
Hugh Kennedy Bailey died peacefully on March 15, 2023 at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Anne and John Farwell in Trappe. He was born November 14, 1932 in Cecil County to George and Marion Bailey. In 1949, the family moved to Poplar Island where Hugh found the love of his life, Evelyn Wallach.
He graduated from St. Michaels High School in 1951, served in the Air Force from 1952-1955, and in 1952, married Evelyn, to whom he was devoted. The Baileys enjoyed a traveling life, were well liked in the community and made many friends wherever they went. Motor homing, camping, Jeeping, boating and motorcycling were all a part of their lives and their love of the outdoors. Hugh was a member of the Red Knights Motorcycle Club MD Chapter 2 and a former member of the Tidewater Camera Club.
In 1976, Hugh and Evelyn bought Tidewater Times and made it their special project. The little black and white monthly featured regional history, arts, personalities and so much more, with a rich and varied stable of writers. It continues to flourish today under the direction of Anne and John Farwell.
Evelyn died in 2019, marking 67 years of happily married life.
Hugh is survived by his children, Margaret Sevigny (Jay), and Anne Farwell (John). In addition, he is survived by his grandchildren Paul Schutz (Regan), Sarah Capozzi (Patrick), Ben Farwell (Alyssa) and Mary Farwell along with four great-grandchildren. In addition, he is survived by his special nephews Randy, Tom and Scott Bailey. He is also survived by a sister Sally Bent (Dave) and a brother Peter (Joyce). His brother Andrew predeceased him.
There will be a private Celebration of Life at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to Talbot Hospice or Red Knights MD Chapter 2.
