The service will be private on Tuesday, and the family will receive friends following the service at 12:30 p.m. at the residence of Al and Elizabeth Arthur, at 225 Humphrey Street.
On Saturday the Arthur's said goodbye to the foundation of our family, Hugh Allen Arthur Sr. He was a legend in the field trial and coon dog world making his mark among the best trainers to ever exist in the sport, winning the National Retriever Championship in 1985, qualifying, and titling many dogs throughout the years. He also instilled his love for working dogs in that of both of his children Al (who went on to win the National Retriever Championship in 2015 & 2020), Bill (an excellent gun dog trainer), and beyond with Hugh III (who won the Jr South Carolina Coon Dog championship at age 11). Not to mention the 1000's of clients, employees, and friends he mentored.
Hugh was a humble, southern gentleman that instilled in his family grace, honor, and chivalry. He was also the greatest Papa to his grandchildren, so proud of each and everyone of their accomplishments, but took great pride in their manners and behavior. Hugh Allen Arthur, Sr was more than a southern gentleman that loved a good hunt, he was an excellent father and an exception Papa! You will not be forgotten, in every whistle that blows or dog that trees your legacy will forever be the gentle breeze that rolls across our face and heart.
Survivors include his wife, Connie Hammond Arthur; two sons, Al Arthur and wife, Elizabeth and Bill Arthur both of Lincolnton, GA; three grandchildren, Emma Arthur of Savannah, GA, Hugh Arthur, III and Ruby Cullars Arthur of Lincolnton, GA.
