Hubert Ray Holder, 93, passed away on Wednesday, June 14, 2023 at Calhoun City Nursing Home. He was born on August 21, 1929 to Everette Maxwell Holder and Rosie Collums Holder. He was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 16, 2023 at 1:00 at Southern Funeral Home in Houston with Brother Donald Austin officiating. Burial will follow in Poplar Springs Cemetery in Vardaman. Visitation will be Friday, June 16 from 11:00 until 1:00 at the funeral home.
Serving as pallbearers are Dean Scott, Shaun Parker, Kevin Knox, Ethan Parker, Nathan Hood and Derek Doss.
Hubert Holder was born in his parents home near Houlka, the sixth child of nine children. He married the love of his life, Dorothy Jean Walls on September 19, 1948. They enjoyed 67 years together before Dorothy's passing on November 25, 2015. He worked most of his life as a truck driver and his CB handle was "Ghost Rider". Mr. Hubert also farmed and loved raising chickens and other farm animals. He was an avid Ole Miss fan and enjoyed watching football. He also enjoyed building bird houses and going to Ripley's First Monday Trade Day. He was a jokester and lived life to the fullest. He always loved celebrating his birthday and Christmas. Family was very important to him, he deeply loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He leaves behind his daughter, Cecelia Knox (Edward) of Columbus; his son, Mike Holder (Judy) of Vardaman; his sister, Glenda Caulder (George) of Calhoun City; his grandchildren, Kevin Knox (Paige), April Scott (Dean), Shaun Parker (Brandi), Kimberly Killen (John), Jennifer Doss (Derek) and Jena Hood (Nathan); and eleven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Everette and Rosie Holder; his wife Dorothy Jean Holder; his sons, Hubert Eugene Holder, Jimmy Everette Holder and Sonny Holder; his daughter, Teresa Holder Parker; his siblings, Inez Schwalenburg, Frances Chrestman, James Holder, Lester Holder, Junior Holder, Cecil Holder and Gerald Holder.
