Howard Norman Timmerman, age 90, of New Palestine passed away February 15, 2021 at Springhurst Health Campus. He was born on August 22, 1930 in Indianapolis as the son of Harvey and Vivian (Ealand) Timmerman. He graduated from Warren Central High School before joining the United States Navy as an aerial photographer during the Korean War. Howard went on to receive a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Purdue University. He married Dorothy "Dottie" Steele on October 26, 1958.
Howard retired from Naval Avionics where he worked on various defense projects for the U.S. military. In retirement, Howard built a toy train layout that slowly took up the entire basement. He enjoyed showing the display to everyone who came to visit but especially to his grandchildren and their friends. Howard had a lifelong love of music and played trumpet and euphonium in the New Horizons Band and Brandywine Winds. When he wasn't attending to his impressive train collection, Howard enjoyed playing with his Golden Retrievers, attending live theater and symphony concerts, and tirelessly supporting his grandchildren in their multiple extracurricular activities. He was a very proud marching band and soccer grandpa. He was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Greenfield.
He is survived by sons, Roger Timmerman of Peoria, IL and Robert (Lori) Timmerman of Cumming, GA; grandchildren Amy and Austin and their mother Tracie (Eric) Amundson and granddaughter Sarah. He was preceded in death by his wife Dottie, his parents Harvey and Vivian Timmerman and brother Warren Timmerman.
