Howard Rand Battan, "Randy" passed away peacefully on April 20, 2022, at the age of 81. He was born on June 6th, 1940, in Spokane, Washington. There he met the love of his life Janeen. After graduation with a bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering from Gonzaga University, they moved to Kelso, Washington where he began a career with Weyerhauser in pulp and paper research. He worked his entire career of 38 years at Weyerhauser, moving to Federal Way, Washington where he worked at their research facility.
The most important part of his life was his family. He and Janeen raised four children together. Throughout his life he enjoyed many hobbies, usually involving building something, from electronics to cars along with photography and winemaking. He enjoyed camping, especially at Priest Lake, Idaho with extended family. After retirement, he and Janeen moved to Anacortes, and had many travelling adventures.
Randy was preceded in death by his father Frank Battan and his mother June (Klein) Battan. He is survived by his wife Janeen and four children Kelley Bright (Kevin), Stephanie Seek (Rod), Bill Battan (Sheila), and Greg Battan (Denise) as well as his siblings Nancy Clark, Pam Ovendale and Clark Battan. He enjoyed his time with his six grandchildren: Emily, Cassidy, Brandon, Jacob, Kaleb, and Willa, and three great-grandchildren Reagan, Lillian, and Levi.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Skagit Community Band of which he was an avid follower, especially of his favorite member, Janeen.
