Hortencia (Tenchita) my mom was a compassionate kind woman. Hortencia Estrada was born in Corinto, Nicaragua.
My mom was born in Nicaragua and lived her life in New York City, US. She could be stubborn, kind, compassionate and feisty all rolled in one. She came to NYC in 1949, worked in garment factories and eventually stayed home to raise her 4 children. Eventually she worked for the State department in a hospital for developmentally challenged children and adults as a Laundry worker. The nurses in the departments were accustomed to the sheets and blankets coming back to them warm and clean, my mother's signature for her work.
She had a warm smile, loved to laugh and her motto was never deny a plate of food to anyone. My mom's capacity for Love was endless, she adopted and was adopted by her 5th child, Diana Pitre at the age of 19. She loved Diana and her family very much!!!
She had 7 grandchildren, Noel and Selena her last grandchildren did not get a chance to know her.
There's not a day that I don't remember something we did together, laughed about together or argued together !
