Horace (Hod) Burton Pomeroy III passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, April 16, 2022 with his family by his side. He was 84 years old. He was born in 1937 in Bronxville, New York. He attended boarding school at Pomfret, CT, Hamilton College in Clinton, New York and is a graduate of the University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona. He received an MBA from Boise State University and was proficient in French, and was an avid reader and loved listening to classical music and going to the Boise Philharmonic.
Horace and his wife, Margarita Benavidez Pomeroy, have called Boise home since 1974. He worked for Morgan Olmstead Kennedy and Gardner in Los Angeles before becoming employed by Morrison Knudsen from 1974-1988. He served District 16 as a State Representative in the Idaho State House of Representatives for 14 years, from 1988-2002, and served on the Joint Finance and Appropriations Committee for many years. One of the most pleasurable pursuits while in the legislature was going door-to-door and meeting with voters of District 16. It was exciting to talk and meet with the constituents about current issues concerning most local families within the district and learn about their thoughts on current situations. It was one of the most gratifying experiences of being a state legislator.
Horace was a thoughtful, devoted and a loving family man. He placed his Creator first and family was next. He loved his church family, his pastor Mr. Loren Yadon and Mrs. Yadon at New Life Fellowship. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 1/2 years and two daughters, Jodie Pomeroy and Emily Locke, son-in-law, Jeremy Locke, and five grandchildren, Cora, Ethan, Collette, Mary and Elijah. He is also survived by two sisters, Patty Tobin and Linda Vaughan, both living in Scottsdale, Arizona.
We are very grateful for the wonderful care given to him by Encompass Hospice and then by Ancora Hospice. We were blessed to have the loving and proficient care given to him by Dr. Billy Galligar, the Registered Nurses, Beth, Janet, and Mandi and the excellent care given to him by the CNA's and Social Worker, Liz, as well as the Chaplain, Jeff, of Ancora Hospice. We are especially thankful for the untiring and loving help of Judy Stroud, caregiver from Visiting Angels. She watched and kept vigil over Horace all the nighttime hours during the week and always had a smile for everyone and was a tireless worker.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, April 21st at Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow afterward at Dry Creek Cemetery.
