While claiming it was a family tradition, in reality her attraction to Brenau was its closeness to the men at Georgia Tech and the University of Georgia. In 1979 after graduating Brenau with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Management, Hope moved to Atlanta to begin a career in banking. She spent the next 37 years with various banks and increasing levels of responsibility until her retirement in 2019 when the family moved to Pawleys so her husband could be closer to his family in Florence, SC.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM Monday, September 19, 2022, at Belin Memorial United Methodist Church. She will be interred in the family plot at Sherwood Memorial Park in Salem, VA.
