Hershel Elvis Qualls, 79, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 8, 2021, in Odessa, TX. He was born on November 20, 1941 in Jefferson, TX, to Johnie Hershal Qualls and Thelma Jane Hartzo Qualls. He was married to Shirley Jane Davis from October 29, 1966, until her passing on December 3, 2012. He later married Sharian Hewett Clinton on May 5, 2018, with whom he shared many fond memories until his passing.
Hershel enjoyed spending time with his family at the lake, playing games, and traveling. He was especially proud of his five grandchildren and enjoyed supporting them in all the activities they participated in through the years.
Hershel graduated from Ector High School in 1963. During high school, he worked at Ottos #2 in Odessa with many of his buddies. After graduation he served in the United States Army from 1963 to 1965. After his military service, he worked for many different companies including, but not limited to, Vance Supply, OIME, NDT, Permian Manufacturing, NOWSCO, El Paso Products (Rexene, Huntsman), Weir SPM, and Dragon, where he retired in 2019. He was well known in the oil field community for his honesty and knowledge of the industry.
Hershel will be greatly missed by all, but we know that this is not goodbye, this is just "see you later". In 1986, he made the decision to follow Christ. He enjoyed going to church with his family. He was a long-time member of Crescent Park Baptist Church and for the last 8 years he was a faithful member of Odessa Bible Church. We know that we will see him again in our heavenly home.
His humor, tall tales, and stubbornness will always be remembered by those who loved him. He was a wonderful son, husband, uncle, father, papa, and friend.
Hershel is survived by his wife Sharian Hewett Clinton Qualls, of Odessa, daughters, Heather Kirk and husband J. of Odessa, Karrie O'Brien and husband Branden of Lamesa, TX, brother Ronnie Qualls and wife Ramona of Midland, TX, and five grandchildren, Allison and Keely Kirk of Odessa; Kelby, Brendel, and Amberlee O'Brien of Lamesa, TX. As well as numerous nieces and nephews who loved their Uncle Hershel very much.
He is preceded in death by his parents Johnie and Thelma Qualls; and his wife of 46 years, Shirley Davis Qualls.
