Herman Bernard Moats, 92, of Halfway, Md., passed away peacefully, in his sleep, at Doey's House, in Hagerstown, Md., on May 10, 2022. He had been in the tender loving care of Troy and Angie Boyer, of Halfway Md., up until his time of passing.
Born July 2, 1929, he was the son of the late Roy Calvin Moats and Bridgett Weller Moats.
He was a SGT. in the US Army serving from 1951-1953.
He worked 33 years for the Western Maryland Railroad. He enjoyed working on cars and lawn mowers and spending time with his family.
In addition to his wife, Norma Lee Moats, he is survived by four sons, Ricky Moats, and his wife Geneva, of Hancock Md., Robert Deneen, of Florida, Troy Boyer, and his wife Angie, of Halfway Md., and Cory Boyer., of Williamsport Md.; one daughter, Patti Deneen Diehl, of Hancock Md.; numerous Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren; four sisters, Betty J. Hixon, Veriee Weller, Etta Mae Younker and Rosalie Ward.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Marvel Elizabeth Moats; one son, Steven Duane Moats; four brothers, Ray C. Moats, Homer E. Moats, Leroy E. Moats and Paul J Moats Sr.; and three sisters, Helen Pittman, Shelva Jean Crouse and Mary Jane Stuckey.
Visitation will be held Thursday, May 12, 2022, 5-8 pm, at Grove Funeral Home, 141 West Main St, Hancock, Md. A graveside service will be held on Friday, May 13, 2022, at 11:00 am, at Stone Bridge Church of the Brethren, 14904 Orchard Ridge Road, Hancock, Md. Military honors will be provided by Tri-State Honor Guard.
