Herman J. Guerette, 94, of Newington, died peacefully on Sunday, June 6, 2021. He was the beloved husband of the late Carmen (Michaud) Guerette for 33 years and Mabel (Benda) Guerette, to whom he was married for 17 years. Born in Madawaska, Maine, he was a Newington resident for most of his life, and was a member of St. Mary's Church. Mr. Guerette attended the University of Massachusetts and was a U. S. Army Air Corps Veteran of World War II. He retired from Pratt & Whitney, East Hartford, after many years of employment. For years he loved spending summer days surrounded by family at his cottage on Long Lake in Harrison, Maine. He was a private pilot and enjoyed flying with the Silver City Flying Club, Meriden.
A loving and devoted father, grandfather and great grandfather, he leaves his sons, Mark Guerette and his wife Susan of Bristol, Jeff Guerette and his wife Kathleen of Burlington, and David Guerette of East Hampton; grandchildren, Michelle Harmon of Montclair, NJ, Michael Guerette of Bristol, Stephanie Guerette of New Hartford, Jenna Lamusta of Lynnfield, MA, Benjamen Guerette of Southington, Brian Guerette of Cambridge, MA, Matthew Guerette of New Hartford, and Daniel Guerette of New Britain; and nine great grandchildren. He also leaves two sisters-in-law Adelaine Roberge and Antoinette Guerette; many nieces and nephews; his daughter-in-law Guylaine Guerette; and a devoted family friend, Judith Grabulis of Bristol. He was pre-deceased by his son Stephen Guerette and two brothers and a sister, Elden Guerette, Constance Benda and Gerald Guerette.
He also leaves Mae's family, his step-children and their families, Darrell Berube, Nancy Colgate and her husband Bruce, Dawn Stange, and step daughter-in-law Linda Berube; nine grandchildren; and 13 great grandchildren. He was pre-deceased by his step-son Eugene Berube.
The Guerette family would like to express its deepest appreciation to the staff of Village Gate of Farmington and Farmington Station, for the kindness and wonderful care shown to Mr. Guerette.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Saturday, June 12, 2021, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Duksa Family Funeral Homes, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, Newington. He will be laid to rest with military honors in West Meadow Cemetery, Newington.
