Herbert Oliver Kittrell, 86, passed away January 26, 2022. He was born in Beaumont, Mississippi on January 30, 1935. Herbert was a graduate of Beaumont High School and the University of Southern Mississippi, where he earned double degrees in accounting and business administration. While still in college, Herbert got a job in New Orleans for the U.S. General Accounting Office where he was an internal auditor for the federal government. He held that position for 12 years. Afterwards, he became regional director of internal affairs for U.S. Customs. He retired from Customs in 1982. He then took a position as business manager for LSU Pediatrics Department at LSU Medical School in New Orleans. Herb also served in the Army Reserve for 30 years with the 377th TAACOM. He started as a private with various units and worked his way up to a full Colonel. It was an accomplishment that he was most proud of. In 1989, he achieved a Masters Degree in business administration. Along with his other achievements, he attained a private pilot license and, along with 3 friends, purchased a small plane. They remained in a flying club together for many years. Herbert is survived by his sons, Chris Kittrell (Susan) and Leslie Kittrell. He is also survived by grandsons, Christopher Kittrell (Brittany) and Jordan Kittrell (Courtney); great granddaughter, Ellie; and brother, Mitch Kittrell. He was preceded in death by his wife, Glynda Hinton Kittrell; parents, Willie Gertrude Kittrell and Forrest Kittrell; and sisters, Catherine Kittrell Gordon and Lois Kittrell Lott. Many thanks to his caretaker, Bonnie Grows, whom he loved dearly. Pallbearers are Christopher Kittrell, Jordan Kittrell, Caleb Hinton, Yancey Lott, Alec Kittrell, and Justin Kittrell.
Visitation will be held Sunday, February 6, 2022 at Moore Funeral Home Hattiesburg Chapel from 12:30 p.m. until religious services at 2 p.m.
