Herbert Thomson "Herb" Britt of McDonough, Georgia, formerly of Decatur, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 25, 2021. Herb was the son of the late Hiram Harvey Britt and Ida Mae Thompson Britt of Decatur, Georgia. Herb retired from the U.S. Postal Service after more than 31 years, where he began his career as a postal railway clerk, eventually retiring as a Supervisor. He retired from his second career after 10 years of civil service with Georgia Regional Hospital in Decatur, Georgia. Herb married the love of his life, Penelope "Penny" Britt in 1998, and together they enjoyed 22 years full of love, laughs and adventures before Penny passed in 2019. Herb was a member of Salem Baptist Church in McDonough, where he served the Lord faithfully until his death. Herb was also a Master Mason and faithful member of Fraternal Lodge #37 F. & A.M., where he served as Chaplain for many years.
Herb is survived by his daughter Catherine Watson (husband, Butch), daughter-in-law Pam Britt (husband, Bob (deceased)); grandchildren Rachel Pickens (husband, Jeremy), Laura Grover (husband, Garrett), Ben Watson (wife, Leigh), David Watson, Paige Wilder; great grandchildren Morgan Revill (husband, Hunter) and Evelyn Pickens; as well as his beloved Penny's daughters, whom he loved as his own, Angela West (husband, Ronnie West), Andrea Haymore and Adrienne McCullough; grandchildren Shana West, Leigh Anna Woodard (husband, Jeremy), T.J. Haymore (wife, Alysha), Melissa West, Marynell Dunn (husband, Jeremy; great grandchildren Shaylee McCay, Charlie Kroenemeyer, Elijah West, Jackson Woodard, James Roseberry and Penelope Roseberry; and other beloved extended family including nieces, nephews and cousins.
A graveside service will be held at 3:00 pm on Saturday, February 6, 2021, at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens in Tucker, Georgia. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Salem Baptist Church in McDonough, Georgia, in Herb's honor.
