Herb, a resident of Dundalk Farms, Maryland passed away peacefully at his home on August 16, 2021 with family members present. He was born to Herbert E. Amey and Lucille (nee Clark). He grew up in Highlandtown during WWII and attended Baltimore City Schools. He joined the Steamfitters Local 438 in 1952 at the age of 18. He went on to become the president of the Steamfitters Union for 3 terms and was a Pension Fund Trustee where he remained a lifelong member. He served as an instructor instructor for the Apprenticeship School and was on various other committees throughout his career. He represented the union on many AFL-CIO convention trips. This is where he and wife Lil found their passion for traveling to places like Las Vegas, Lake Tahoe, California, and many others; but his love of horseracing and betting his favorite races at The Playbook in Vegas became his favorite. Herb was a history buff and had an ongoing fascination for all things historical. He would watch historical documentaries, read books about history for pleasure, and on occasion visit historical places that interested him the most. He was always ready to give someone a history lesson...or two, and was a wiz at Jeopardy! He was a great storyteller. He had an uncanny ability to draw you in to a time and place of his childhood where you would be fascinated and would hang onto every word. He would surprise you by talking of his many adventures growing up in the 40's & 50's. His pleasant personality was contagious to everyone he met. The simplest pleasures in life brought him the most joy. Herb was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is predeceased by his wife Marie "Lil" (nee Bellich) and son James. He leaves behind his sons Herbert and his wife Debbie, Randy, and daughter Lauren and her husband Dave. Cherished grandfather of Bryan, Christopher, Jason, Valerie, David, and Victor; loving great-grandfather to Mia, Nicholas, Katelynn, Ethan, Colten, Ava, Madison, Trevor, Charlotte, and Griffin. Herb is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends. Family will receive visitors at the Connelly Funeral Home of Dundalk on Thursday from 3-5 & 7-9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Rita's Catholic Church on Friday at 10:30 AM. Interment will follow at Oak Lawn Cemetery.
