Herald Ross Walters , 91 Aug 22, 1928 - Apr 11, 2020 Herald Ross Walters , 91 Aug 22, 1928 - Apr 11, 2020 Harold "Ross" Walters, 91 of Hagerstown, passed away suddenly at his home on Saturday April 11th, 2020.

He was born on Wednesday, August 22nd, 1928 at his family home in Chaneysville, a son of the late Augustus Walters and Ruth (O'Neal) Walters. In December of 1969 he married Dorothy Marie "Dottie" (Smith) Walters, of Artemas after a long courtship. Ross and Dottie were married for nearly 50 years, until her passing on May 6th, 2019. In their retirement, the couple enjoyed many beach shore vacations to Ocean City Maryland, Nags Head, North Carolina, Venice Beach, Florida, and others, as well as camping with his brother and family.

Ross is survived by a sister-in-law, Helen M. Garton of Hagerstown, a brother-in-law Eddie Barton of Cresaptown,

three nieces; Kay Walters of Forest Park, Ohio, Carla Quimby of Hagerstown, Vicki (Rodger) Grimm of Hagerstown,

one nephew, James Barton of Cresaptown, two great-nieces; Leslie (Andy) Phillips of Boonsboro, Megan Quimby of Hagerstown, and three great-great-nieces, Ashley and Alyssa Phillips, and Kiana Cochrane, all at home.

In addition to his parents and wife, Ross is preceded in passing away by a brother, Leason Walters formerly of Cincinnati, Ohio, a sister RhodaAnn Barton formerly of Cresaptown, and two nephews, Scott Walters formerly of College Corner, Indiana and Charles Barton, formerly of Cresaptown

Ross was a 1946 graduate of Everett High School. Shortly after graduation, he enlisted in the Air Force, serving

in the Pacific. Ross was part of the United States' peacetime atomic tests conducted at Bikini Atoll, Marshall Islands, and witnessed an atomic explosion first hand. He later described the experience as "...a brightness you couldn't believe, and a rush of heat like nothing else you ever felt".

While still in high school, as part of the World War II effort, Ross worked for the Kelly Springfield Tire Plant in Cumberland, and returning there again after his discharge from the Air Force. Ross was a man who always had a job, starting as a young man growing up on his parents farm until his retirement in 1991 from Mack Trucks in Hagerstown. In the course of his career, he worked for Allegany Ballistics Lab in Cresaptown, Squibb Pharmaceuticals in New Brunswick, and Mack Truck Powertrain Plant in Hagerstown. His work ethic was such that, if he'd finished his quota on the production line, he would go down to another line and help them finish theirs. No task was left undone on his watch!

Among his interests, Ross enjoyed exploring the C&O towpath trail and other nature walks, avidly following the stock market, maintaining his vegetable garden and raising some of the best tasting tomatoes around. He will be remembered as a self-made man, a hard working man and a devoted husband to his beloved wife Dottie. Friends may share memories and photos online at www.dallavalle-everett.com.
