It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, brother and best friend, Henry (Skip) A. Wilkins, Jr. Skip passed after a long and fierce battle with Covid compounded by existing lung issues on July 1, 2021 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, MA. He was blessed to have his wife, Susan, his daughters Bridget and Meagan, his son David with him by his side in those final moments.
Born in Providence, Rhode Island on August 11, 1951, Skip spent his early years in New England and later in Long Island, New York, and eventually would move to Virginia where he would start his career and family. Skip's love for New England brought him back as he, his wife Susan, and their dog Hank would move to New Hampshire.
Skip earned his Associates Degree in Criminal Justice at NVCC. He held various jobs in law enforcement but would settle into a 24-year career in the Secret Service Uniform Division. He retired as a Lieutenant in charge of the K-9 Division. After retirement from the Secret Service, Skip started his second career in private security first in the Washington metropolitan area and later in the greater Boston area to start up the New England Branch of his company's security program. His expertise led him to several companies, and he would continue to work until he contracted Covid despite receiving the vaccine.
Skip was that person you instantly loved. He was smart, insightful and had the capacity to make anyone laugh. He enjoyed watching football, eating Italian, and riding his Harley. He enjoyed traveling, where his favorite vacations were with the entire family at the Happy Daze in Sandbridge and on family cruises. Above all he loved his family and was always there for anyone who needed him. Skip greeted everyone in his family with a kiss and a hug and never left a conversation without saying and meaning, I love you.
As a family we don't know how to say goodbye as he leaves behind, his devoted wife Susan, his daughter Bridget and her husband Dave Horinko, their two children, Alex and Hailey, his son David and his wife Dayna Wilkins, their two children, Malena and Anthony, his daughter Meagan and her husband Matt Dignan, his four sisters, his brother, and numerous nieces and nephews. Skip leaves behind countless friends, and many, many wonderful gifts of love that he has shared. All who had the honor to have known Skip Wilkins are saddened, but our lives are richer to have been touched by such an amazing, one of a kind person.
