Henry Z. Marin was born and raised in Oxnard, California on November 13, 1933. He passed away at home on December 21, 2020, surrounded by his family. After graduating from Oxnard High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and attended basic training at Fort Ord, after which he was sent to Germany and Japan for close combat training.
As a Combat Construction Specialist, Henry served two tours with the 5th Regimental Combat team during the Korean War from 1950 - 1953. He was honored with the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. Henry was a proud veteran and member of the Korean War Veterans Association, Chapter 56 "The Graybeards" of Ventura County, whose mission is "We will honor and pay tribute to all those veterans that never got the opportunity to continue their civilian lives the way that we did". On February 21, 2015, Henry and the veterans from his chapter were acknowledged on the Korean Remembrance Wall at General Patton's Memorial Museum in Indio, CA.
Married for 58 years, he is survived by his wife, Estella Marin and their four children: Henry Marin Jr, Elaine Marin-Conn, Lorraine Benavides and Cesar Marin; son-in-law's Brian Conn and Moises Benavides and daughter-in-law's Ymelda Marin and Sandra Rios. He was a proud grandpa of 8 grandchildren: Jacob and Gabe Herrera, Briana and Noah Conn, Isaiah Benavides and Sesario, Kaylee and Tobias Marin. Henry was a professional truck driver for fifty-three years and successfully owned his own business, Marin Trucking, before retiring in 2006.
In compliance with local COVID regulations, funeral services will be held at Santa Clara Cemetery and Mortuary on January 22, 2021 with a viewing from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m., followed by church and burial service at 11:15 a.m.
The family wishes to thank Livingston Memorial Hospice Center for their loving care and assistance.
