Henry "Hank" Edward Arend Jr., resident of Boise, ID., was born on May 21, 1948, in Chicago, IL. to Regina (Jean) Tushkowski Arend and Henry (Hank) E. Arend Sr. He graduated from St. Vincent High School (Petaluma, CA.) in 1966 and completed some college after joining the Seabees (construction battalion of the U.S. Navy). He was a Vietnam veteran who honorably served in Vietnam and in Antarctica for Operation "Deep Freeze".
Hank married Joyce Marano in November of 1972 in San Francisco, CA. and had his son, Josh. He later married Nancy J. Mason on July 14, 1991 at St. Joseph in Cotati, CA. and had three daughters, Amy, Jodi, and Becca. Before moving to Boise, he resided in various places, including Chicago, IL., Ignacio, CA., Rohnert Park, CA. (where his son was born), Sebastopol, CA., and Windsor, CA. (where he raised his three daughters with Nancy).
Hank was a self-employed concrete and masonry contractor who loved water and snow skiing, fishing, hunting, boating, home improvement and gardening, faux rocks, family, and sharing his snacks with any dog in the room. He was a devout Roman Catholic, supporter of Birthright, and a part of both the Knights of Columbus and Vertical Artisans.
Hank is survived by his wife, Nancy, four children, Josh (Angie), Amy, Jodi, and Becca (Cody), his grandchildren, Tyler, Reese, and Jenna, and his siblings, Mary, Geoff, Gina, Patrick, and Cathy. He also had a brother and sister-in-law (Paul and Mary), many cousins, nieces and, nephews, of whom he loved dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hank E. Arend Sr. and Jean Arend.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Birthright of Boise.
A public funeral mass will be held, 11:00 am, Monday, December 16, 2024, at St. Mark's Catholic Church, 7960 Northview St. in Boise, with a vigil rosary and viewing beginning at 9:30 am. A committal service will follow at 1:00 pm at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery, 10100 Horseshoe Bend Rd., Boise, Idaho.
