Henry was born April 19, 1931, in Union County, NC, a son of the late Hiram S. Hamilton and Isabel Garrison Hamilton. He was a Korean War veteran who served in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954 in Tokyo, Japan. After returning, he spent many years in food and dairy distributorships with Armour and with Long Meadow Dairy. He later served as Superintendent of the Charlotte Civic Center, retiring in 1989. Henry was a man of strong faith throughout his life. As a member of Central United Methodist Church of Monroe for over 50 years, he was involved in several committees and was a long-time member of the Pathfinders Sunday School Class and the Methodist Men's Group.
Self-reliant and industrious, Henry would fix or clean almost anything...clocks, cars, furniture, and toys. He enjoyed learning throughout his life, using the latest technology, and loved the ability to find answers to questions on the internet. The many adventures he took us on were well-planned, but always appeared to be spontaneous. A devoted husband and father, he loved and served God and his family above all else.
He is survived by his son, Henry G. Hamilton, Jr. and his wife, Martha, of Monroe NC; his daughter, Nissa Hamilton and her wife, Theressia, of Vashon, WA; his stepdaughter, Ellen Bishop Guffey and husband, Allen, of Florence, SC; stepdaughter Mary Bishop Rich and husband, Jim, of Wilmington, NC; stepson, William Warren Bishop, Jr. and wife Mary Beth, of Millers Creek, NC; granddaughter, Chera Hamilton; step-grandchildren, Jennifer Morris, Robert Guffey, Jordan Oswalt and Will Bishop; great-grandson, Caleb Lemmond; step-great-grandchildren, EJ, Drew, and Gage Morris, and Addison and Grayson Guffey; his sister, Helen Williams and her husband Tom of Matthews, NC; and his sister-in-law, Linda Taylor of Asheville, NC.
In addition to his parents, Henry was preceded in death by Catharine, his wife of 33 years.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Central United Methodist Church, 801 S. Hayne St., Monroe, NC, 28112.
