Henry August Gerken, 89, of Napoleon, Ohio passed away on July 22, 2022. He was born in Freedom Township, Henry County, Ohio on April 4, 1933, to Herman and Emilie (Badenhop) Gerken. Henry married Dorothy Wiemken on September 19, 1954, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church Adams Ridge.
Henry was a lifelong famer and was a well-known mechanic at Meineke Sales and Service for over 20 years. He also worked for Gerald Grain, Northrup King Research, and Pioneer Research. Henry was a lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church, Freedom Township. He was very active in the church, serving in many capacities such as Elder, Trustee, committee member and as a school board member. Henry was a member of the Maumee Valley Retired Iron Tractor Club and enjoyed working on his Oliver tractors. He also collected toy tractors. Henry passed on a wealth of knowledge to his younger coworkers. He enjoyed teaching them and sharing stories together.
Henry is survived by his children, Beverly (Michael) Becker, Randall (Liza) Gerken, and Bethann Gerken; grandchildren, Brittany (Kevin) Trolio and Jerid Stine; step grandchildren, Kevin Becker, and Amy Aust; 5 great grandchildren; and sister, Melba Elling. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; and siblings, Rudolph Gerken, Caroline Hoffman and Waldo Gerken.
Friends and family will be received at the Rodenberger-Gray Funeral Home, Napoleon, on Monday, July 25, 2022, from 3:00 PM until 7:00 PM. Funeral services will be held at St. John Lutheran Church, Freedom Township on Tuesday, July 26, 2022 at 11:00 AM with an hour of visitation prior to services. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Funeral Services will be livestreamed from the church YouTube channel, link from the website https://wp.sjl.org.
