Helen Elizabeth Taylor, 80, of Holly Hill, Florida, passed away on November 3, 2024. Born on November 3, 1944, in Sumter, South Carolina, she was the daughter of Arthur Compton and Helen Elizabeth Corbett. At the age of 3, Helen moved to Covington, Kentucky, where her father remarried Lee Miles, her beloved stepmother.
Helen is survived by her devoted husband of 61 years, Robert Taylor; her son, Douglas Taylor; six grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, Robert "Bobby" Taylor, her mother, Helen Corbett, her father, Arthur Compton, and her stepmother, Lee Miles.
Helen met the love of her life, Robert, when they were both 16, at a football game. Their enduring love story lasted more than six decades, marked by countless cherished memories. Together, they raised five Dobermans and many beloved cats, with one particular Doberman named Storm, who once saved Helen from harm, a testament to the deep bond they shared with their pets.
In the late 1990s, Helen and Robert lived in the Gulf Coast of Mississippi for four years, where she enjoyed the thrill of gambling and the peaceful retreat by the sea. She was also a strong and loving partner when Robert served as Exalted Ruler of the Elks Lodge in Green Cove Springs, Florida, offering her support and leadership to their community.
Helen's professional life spanned over 40 years, including 25 years in retail. She worked her way up to become a manager at Zayre Department Store, eventually being transferred to the Orange Park, Florida location in 1986. Afterward, she spent 15 years working for Bishop Glen of Holly Hill before retiring.
Helen will be remembered for her genuine kindness, her fierce loyalty, and her ability to make everyone feel like they were her family. Whether through her love of animals, her spirited nature, or the warmth she shared with all who knew her, Helen truly was a remarkable woman.
