Helen Irene McKay, age 93, passed away on Saturday, November 2, 2024 in Kermit. She was born on March 20, 1931 in Farmer City, IL to Alva Raymond and Lottie Pearl (Wheeler) Scarbrough. Helen married Marion Lee McKay on August 10, 1952 in Farmer City, IL and they shared 54 wonderful years together until his passing in 2006.
Helen was a charter member of Trinity Christian Church in Kermit. She graduated high school in 1949 in Farmer City, IL. Helen enjoyed playing puzzle games and working puzzles. She was a big fan of the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers. She loved life and will be dearly missed.
She was preceded in death by her husband: Lee McKay; son: Michael Lee McKay; parents: Alva and Pearl Scarbrough; brothers: Dean, Lyle and Roy Scarbrough; and sisters: Dorothy Mae Scarbrough, Betty Halsted, Edna Lee, and Norma Henry.
Helen is survived by her daughter: Pamela Sue Day and husband John of Kermit, TX; sister: Anna Lamb of Farmer City, IL; sisters-in-law: Judy Scarbrough of Rochester, IL and Alline Hicks of Kermit, TX; grandchildren: Jennifer Eicher and husband Rick, Larenda Gallardo and husband Omar, and Heather Slayton and husband James; and great-grandchildren: Zachary, Annabelle, Benjamin, Kohen, Gregory, Eliot, Jax, Johnny, and Robert.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm, on Wednesday, November 6, 2024 at Family Services Funeral Chapel in Kermit, officiated by Chris McKay. Burial will follow at Kermit Cemetery. Pallbearers will include: John Day, Rick Eicher, Omar Gallardo, James Slayton, Heather Slayton, Zach Eicher, and Kohen Gallardo. Honorary Pallbearers will include: Annabelle Eicher, Benjamin Eicher, Gregory Gallardo, Eliot Gallardo, and Jax Slayton.
In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to any charity or church of choice in her honor.
