Helen (Skiba) Ptaszynski, 97, of Bristol, widow of Lucian Ptaszynski, was called to our Lord on Good Friday, April 15, 2022. Born on November 14, 1924 in Middletown, CT, she was a daughter of the late Michael and Mary (Pulka) Skiba. Helen graduated from St. Mary's Grammar School in 1938 then attended Middletown High School and graduated in 1942. Following high school, Helen was admitted to the St. Francis School of Nursing and graduated in 1945, then worked as a registered nurse for St. Francis Hospital from 1945 to 1948 as the Assistant Head Nurse. In 1948, she left the hospital to start her family. After raising her children, Helen returned to nursing and worked for Bristol Hospital for 22 years. She worked as a nurse on the night shift on the MaxiCare Floor. Helen will be remembered by her family and friends for her Babka bread-making. She was a fan of UCONN Women's Basketball, the Boston Red Sox, and Tom Brady. Helen was a longtime member of St. Stanislaus Kostka's parish here in Bristol. Helen loved her Catholic faith. She attended Mass and prayed the Rosary and Divine Mercy Chaplet daily. She was a Eucharistic Minister for the church and would bring communion to the homebound. She was a member of the St. Stanislaus Ladies Guild, the Golden Agers, the Legion of May, and St. Francis School of Nursing Alumni Association of 1945. Helen is survived by her four sons and three daughters-in-law?Dr. Mike Ptaszynski of Bristol, CT, Joe and Kathy Ptaszynski of Thompson, CT, Tony and Debbie Ptaszynski of Enfield, CT, and David and Betsie Ptaszynski of North Falmouth, MA; two daughters and sons-in-law?Therese and Tom Sofio of Steubenville, OH, and Dr. Elizabeth and Marty Howard of Dover, MA; fifteen grandchildren?Jeff Ptaszynski, Jill Williams, Laura Goodman, Beth Hopkins, Dan Ptaszynski, Katie Sofio, Justin Sofio, Ryan Sofio, Dr. Mary Beth Cyr, Marty Howard, Eileen Howard, Emilie Ptaszynski, Maggie Ptaszynski, Eli Ptaszynski, and Nate Ptaszynski; twelve great grand children?Helena, Jonny, Elle Marie, Aiden, Christopher, Jacob, Andrew, Diane, Rocco, Antonio, Eliza, and Joey, and several nieces and nephews. Helen was predeceased by her brother John Skiba and her sisters Genevieve Skiba, Irene Kurek, Josephine Girdzausky, and Anna Mae Chowaniec. A funeral mass will be held Wednesday, April 20, at 11am at St. Stanislaus Church, 510 West St., Bristol. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 4-7pm at DuPont Funeral Home, 25 Bellevue Ave., Bristol.
