On April 14, 2021, Helen Carter Peace, was called to her Heavenly home. Known to a few as Momma, Mother, Grandmomma, or Gi Gi, but more widely known as Helen, she was born in Anderson, SC on July 16, 1927 to the late Andrew and Bessie Massey Carter. Helen retired in 1989 after many years of food service work at Garden lakes Elementary School. While she might have been retired, food was still her passion. Known locally for the famous macaroni and cheese she prepared for every event and for always having a pitcher of sweet tea ready in case a visitor dropped by, Helen was a true southern lady. She was a long-time member of the former 5th Avenue Baptist Church and a member of Garden Lakes Baptist Church at her passing.
Living to the age of 93, Helen was greeted in Heaven by a multitude of people including husband, CF "Pete" Peace, and son, Bill Peace, her parents, three brothers, and two sisters. Surviving is her son, Bruce Peace (Jocelyn) of Armuchee, GA; daughter-in-law Sherry Peace of Rome, GA; grandchildren, Jody Peace (Kristen) of Acworth, GA, Jordan Donegan (Nick) of Rome, GA, and Jenna Peace of Jacksonville, FL; great grandchildren, Rett Donegan, Lillian Peace, and Reid Donegan; and numerous nieces and nephews including Beverly Kelley of Taylors, SC.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, April 17th at Garden Lakes Baptist Church. Mrs. Peace will lie in state at the church from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM on Saturday, April 17th. A private burial will be at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens immediately following the service. Masks are requested for the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you share the love that Helen shared with so many by providing a meal for someone in need.
