Helen Murray (Elma Helen), 91, of Waverly, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, December 14, 2022. Helen was born November 1, 1931 in Pike County, Ohio and married Robert Clark Murray on April 13, 1952.
She was a graduate of Southeastern Business College from which she received an outstanding alumni award for business success. After graduation, she worked in Columbus for the Ohio State Senate. Later, she assisted in managing family businesses, Latham Limestone and two farms.
Helen was active in many clubs. She helped organize Waverly's first garden club and Pike County's first 4-H horse club. She was a state officer In the Ohio Association of Garden Clubs and an accredited flower show judge. She was a life member of the Sigma Phi Gamma International Sorority and loved traveling to conventions with sorority sisters. She was a lifetime member of Pike County Agricultural Society and she and her husband, Robert, were recognized with Pike County's Outstanding Conservationist award for their farming practices. She was active in the GoGo Girls and several bridge clubs in Waverly. She was an accomplished seamstress, interior decorator, organizer and loving mother and grandmother.
She is survived by her son Robert Murray of Ft. Myers, Florida, daughter Patricia Murray Carroll (husband Ray) of Naples, Florida, two grandchildren, Betsy Carroll Mitchell (husband Matt) of Des Moines, Iowa and Robert Carroll (wife Nikki) of Naples, Florida. She had five great grandchildren Carter, Ben and Lyla Mitchell and Austin and Colie Carroll. She is also survived by her sister Connie Detillion of Chillicothe and several nieces and nephews . She is preceded to the Lord by her husband Robert Murray, her mother and father Mable and Harold Barker, her brother Lloyd Barker, a great granddaughter, Kate Mitchell.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 29, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Dave Burris officiating. The family will receive visitors between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. before the service. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Union Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Calvary United Methodist Church , 107 W. Third Street, Waverly, Ohio 45690 or National Church Residence Hospice.
