Helen George Monnier, 96, of New Bern, NC died peacefully Sunday June 23, 2024 at her daughter's home in Rehobeth Beach, Delaware. Helen was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.
Helen was born October 28th, 1927 in Albany, Illinois to the late Charles George and Theodosia Newcomer George. Helen pursued several occupations throughout her lifetime. After high school graduation she became a school teacher in one room schoolhouse in Albany, Illinois. On August 3, 1946 she married her one and only love William "Bill" Henery Monnier. After the wedding they moved to Iowa where she worked in the Registrar's Office at Cornell College, while Bill earned a Bachelor's of Science degree in chemistry. Soon they moved to Colorado where she taught Art, History, and Geography; while Bill earned his Masters Degree from Colorado State. They returned to Albany, Illinois where together they built their first home overlooking the Mississippi River. There Helen taught elementary school until 1956 when they started their family. Bills career with Dupont took them from Iowa to Delaware, to New York, and back to Delaware. On their 25th anniversary they purchased a colonial farm just across the state line in Pennsylvania where she started her antique business, "The Village Peddler". In 1981 they retired to New Bern, North Carolina. Retirement included founding "Monnier Homes", joining "Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR)", and becoming a member of the Garber United Methodist Church and church circle. Helen's hobbies included genealogy, she enjoyed tracing the family's roots back to before the founding of this country, and her love of oil painting which earned her blue ribbons and more. Helen had a tremendous pride of her family, both past and present. She often voiced that she had a marvelous life.
Helen is survived by her three children, Jeffery George Monnier, and his wife Linda Monnier of New Bern, Christine Monnier McFerron and husband Gary McFerron of New Bern, Valerie Monnier-Capone and husband Tony Capone of Rehobeth Beach Delaware. Including her seven grandchildren, Nicholas Frisoli and partner Jenny Sciortino, Chief Brandon Frisoli USCG, and wife, Navy Veteran, Becky Frisoli, Danielle Frisoli, Andrew Kemske and his wife Samantha Kemske, Terra Valent?, Ren?e Ciaramitaro and husband Lt. Col Dominic Ciaramitoro (USA LRET.); and her seven great grandchildren, Evangelina Penaranda, Caleb Kemske, Violet Kemske, Amelia Ciaramitaro and Brody Sciortino, and Bill's sister, Jean Tichler of Illinois. At a future date Helen's ashes will be joined with Bill's and scattered on the hillside of their first home overlooking the Mississippi River in Albany Illinois.
Family will be receiving friends Monday July 1st between 4:00 pm and 7:00 pm at her residence, 126 Neuchatel Rd in Taberna.
Funeral services will be held at Garber United Methodist Church, Tuesday July 2nd at 10:00.
