Helen V. Hansen of Fennimore, Wisconsin, passed July 20, 2024, at Orchard Manor Nursing Home in Lancaster, WI. God blessed Helen with 101-1/2 years on earth and has promised her eternal life with Him in heaven. He has also blessed her family and friends with her presence in their lives. Thanks be to God!
She was born December 16, 1922, at home in rural Wauzeka, Crawford County, WI, daughter of Levi "Lee" Ward and Flora Teleta "Leta" (Young) Ward. Helen was baptized at age 14 in the Wisconsin River by Reverend Eldon Chitwood near Boydtown, WI. She was a graduate of Wauzeka High School. She married Roscoe Hansen on June 10, 1941, at the Congregational Church parsonage in Boscobel, Grant County, WI, by Rev. Wm. R. Dixon. After their marriage, they owned an 80-acre farm on Harris Ridge, Crawford County, WI, and moved to Fennimore, WI, in 1955. They managed the Mobil Service Station in Fennimore for eight years. After Ros suffered a serious stroke in 1994, Helen was his loving, supportive caregiver for 14 years. They celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary in 2008, shortly before Ros' passing. She lived independently until the 2020 pandemic, when Patty became her caregiver.
Helen was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and will be remembered for her kind and gentle spirit, her concern for the health and well-being of others, and a keen sense of humor, especially when playing practical jokes on her family and next-door neighbors. She cherished time spent with her family. She received great pleasure helping her husband in business and with woodworking projects. For many years, she and Ros raised a bountiful garden, sharing its produce with neighbors, friends, and family. After retirement, she developed a talent for oil painting. Many of her creations are treasured by her family and friends. She was an avid reader, crossword puzzle enthusiast, and enjoyed embroidery until macular degeneration made those activities impossible.
She was a member of the Fennimore United Methodist Church since 1955 and also a member of the Fennimore United Methodist Women. She enjoyed friendships made at Church, as a Girl Scout Troop Leader, during her employment at Wagner Shoe Store and the school lunch program, and during the eight years she assisted her husband at Hansen's Mobil Service Station in Fennimore.
Helen is survived by her daughter, Patricia Munns; grandson, Scott (Roxanne) Munns; great-grandchildren, Aaron Munns (fianc?e Elisha Wilson), and Rebekah Munns; nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ros, on August 31, 2008; her parents, three siblings and their spouses: Fay (Yvonne and Sadie) Ward, Gyneth (Clarence) Wheeler, and Emil (Shirley) Ward; Ros' siblings and spouses: Loral Hansen, Leonard (Lillian) Hansen, and Adeline (Edward) Warczak.
