Helen Irene Craighead, 87, went home to be with her Lord on Sunday, December 20, 2020. Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, December 28, 2020 at Second Baptist Church in Odessa with Reverend Jackie Brem officiating. Burial will be 10:00 a.m. January 2, 2021 at Murray Memorial Cemetery in Carbon. Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. Sunday, December 27, 2020 at Hubbard Kelly Funeral Home.
Helen was born on January 12, 1933 to Newton and Tezzie (McGaha) Bennett in Gorman, Texas. She graduated from Gorman High School in 1951. Helen married the love of her life, SL Craighead on November 3, 1950 in Gorman. Helen was a longtime resident of Odessa and a homemaker. She was formally from Perth Australia from 1979-1982. Helen enjoyed playing Freecell or word search on her tablet and gardening. She even won first place at the county fair for her flower from Perth Australia. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family, grandchildren and her church family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, SL, brother, John Wayne Bennett, sisters, Edith Teakell, Hazel Collins and Barbara Tucker.
Survivors include her son, Robert Wayne Craighead and wife, Kathy of Odessa, daughter, Deborah Ann Smith and husband, Scot of Midland; grandchildren: Ben Craighead and wife, Stephanie of Austin, Elizabeth Ensey and husband, Joshua of Odessa, and Ryan Smith of Houston, great-grandchildren: Ryder Ensey and Jackson Craighead; numerous nieces, nephews, special family member, Debbie McReynolds, and a host of friends.
The family would like to thank her caregivers, Corina, Kristi and the staff of Fresenius Dialysis for the care given to Helen.
