Mrs. Helen Christine Coalson Byars, age 87, of Rome, GA, passed away on Thursday, December 18, 2025.
Mrs. Byars was born in Taylorsville, GA, on May 1, 1938, daughter of the late Hubert Coalson and the late Lora Moore Coalson. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William Robert Byars, Sr., a son-in-law, Lawrence Stone, and by her brother, Harold F. Coalson. Mrs. Byars was a 1956 graduate of Rome High School and went on to receive her associate's degree from Floyd Junior College (now Georgia Highlands). She retired from Valley Vend Food Service after 14 years serving as a food service manager. A servant at heart, Mrs. Byars blessed as many as she could with her baking prowess, showing love and serving through her cooking. Mrs. Byars was an amateur genealogist and promoted her family's reunions for many years. She served as a mentor in the Floyd County Schools for more than 10 years. Mrs. Byars was an avid reader, enjoyed scrapbooking and loved her Bible studies. She was a member of Second Avenue Baptist Church and is now rejoicing in the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, for eternity.
Survivors include her 3 children, Christine Byars Newberry (Kenny), Silver Creek, Jane Byars Stone (Lawrence), Rome, and William Robert "Bill" Byars, Jr. (Janie), Rome; 5 grandchildren, Jeremy Newberry (Hanna), Joseph Newberry (Sarah), Allison Stone Edmondson (Cody), Chris Stone (Kaitlyn), and William Robert Byars, III; 10 great grandchildren, Logan Newberry, Lillie Newberry, Landon Newberry, Madi Newberry, Jace Pearson, Brody Pearson (Gracie), Alex Edmondson, Brandon Edmondson, John David Edmondson, and Isabell Stone; 3 nieces and a nephew, Camilla Deutsch, Mary Jo Berkes, Kathy Davis (Barry), and Bill Byars (Traci); numerous great nieces, great nephews, and other extended family whom she loved dearly.
A celebration of Mrs. Byars life will take place at 12pm on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, in the Chapel at Second Avenue Baptist Church with her Pastor, Jacob Roberts, officiating the service. Private interment will take place in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.
The family will be located in the reception hall immediately following the service for friends to speak to until 2pm on Tuesday.
Mrs. Byars grandchildren and great grandchildren will serve as her pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the William S. Davies Homeless Shelters, 3 Central Plaza PMB #391, Rome, GA 30161, or to the Georgia Baptist Children's Homes, P.O. Box 329, Palmetto, GA 30268.
