Helen Jackson Allen (94) of LaFayette, GA came into this world August 20, 1927 in Fayetteville, GA and arrived in the presence of Our Lord September 22, 2021 after a battle with cancer. She passed peacefully surrounded by family. The third child of the late George W. and Cora (Hartley) Jackson, she lost her last living sibling, Reese Jackson (97) only three weeks ago. She was a graduate of Fayette County High School and worked as a bookkeeper at various businesses, but her primary passion was being a loving wife and mother to her 4 children.
Helen was a member of First Baptist Church of LaFayette, GA for 68 years, where her husband, Jack Allen, served as a deacon. At age 46, she became a widow when Jack died at age 49. Helen was also preceded in death by her sister Estelle Olson of New Orleans, LA. and brother Russell Jackson of Mineral Bluff, GA., daughter-in-law Connie Houghton Allen (Jack), and son-in-law Allen Wallace (Patty).
Helen and Jack's children include Elaine Harrell of Columbus, Ga., Patty Wallace of LaFayette, Jack Allen of Chattanooga, and Rebecca Byler (Judson) of Hendersonville, TN. She was loved and adored by her children, their spouses her 6 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren. Kelly Harrell King (Daniel, Sydney, Isabell), Laurie Harrell Reiney (Barnes, Jackson, Katie Gray), Benjamin Byler (Jemma), Liz Byler Shea (Brandon, McKayla, Cashel, Hannah), Betsy Allen, and Jeff Wallace.
The week that Helen passed she was still in touch daily with her children, worked Sudoku, followed the weather and social media on her iPad, and read the newspaper as she exercised that wonderfully brilliant and caring mind. She made numerous, anonymous gifts and acts of kindness and charity through the years that cannot be counted. Beautiful inside and out until the end, her greatest gift was that of being a wonderful Christian mother who will be greatly missed.
A Celebration of Helen's Life is scheduled Monday, September 27, 2021, at 2pm in the sanctuary at First Baptist Church of LaFayette, GA. Dr. Derek Fielder will officiate. A graveside service for the family will follow at LaFayette City Cemetery. Recommended Covid Protocol is important to the immediate family if you plan to attend the service. In Lieu of Flowers, gifts may be made to the American Cancer Society or to ministries of First Baptist Church, LaFayette. Wallis & Wilbanks Funeral Home of LaFayette is in charge of arrangements.
