Mrs. Hassie Faye Burdine, 91, Beech Grove, passed away on the late evening of Sunday, November 21, 2021 at her home, per her wishes, to remain cared for by her eldest daughter, Diane Burdine. Hassie demonstrated a strong Appalachian will to live and had outlived several "calamities" over the past years, including surviving a heart bypass and contracting necrotizing fasciitis. She was very proud of her lifetime survival and counted the continued years to be able to enjoy her family.
Hassie was born December 15, 1929, to Joseph R. and Lucy (Adams) Bryant of the Sinking Creek/White Oak community of Laurel County, Kentucky. She was one of three daughters, her two sisters, Imal Bryant Zanet and Pauline Bryant Oaks, precede her in passing.
Hassie grew up in Sinking Creek and then resided most of her life between two residences; Fifth Street in Beech Grove and Baldrock, Kentucky, where she and her husband enjoyed boating on Rockcastle River and Cumberland River. She was best known for her gifts of pies, cookies and brownies. She was a devoted homemaker and provided childcare in her home. She enjoyed traveling, camping, gardening and fishing. She was a baptized member of the Beech Grove First Christian Church.
Hassie is survived by her two daughters, Diane Burdine and Wanda Burdine Pithoud (Randall); two grandchildren, Kelsey Pithoud Fifer (Dan) and Kyle Pithoud (Candice); three great-grandchildren; Allana Grace Pithoud, Nicomachus Orion Fifer and Seraphina Sassafras Fifer.
On July 14, 1951, Hassie married Fordie Burdine, Jr. who preceded her in passing May 30, 2016.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:30 am, Friday, November 26, 2021 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, Greenwood, with Pastor Carlos Burdine officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
