Harry William Huntzberry, 80, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, October 24, 2022. He was the beloved husband of Louise Huntzberry for 60 years. Born May 2, 1942, he was the son of the late Vernon Landon Huntzberry, Sr. and Gladys Susan (Green) Huntzberry.
Harry was the founder of Huntzberry Brothers Inc., a Smithsburg-based construction company started in 1966. He led the company as President until 2004 but never officially retired and continued to stay heavily involved in the business. When he was not working on a job site or on a handy-man project, you could typically find him working on his race cars. Harry first got into drag racing when he bought his first car, a '30 Ford Model Coupe, at 13 years old to eventually street race. He later graduated from the streets to the racetrack, where he and his drivers won countless races over his 60-plus years of drag racing. Harry owned over a dozen race cars in his lifetime but is best known for his '69 Camaro. Harry was a member of the NHRA and inducted into the Eastern Museum of Motor Racing Hall of Fame.
Most importantly, Harry deeply loved his family and in addition to his wife Louise, he is survived by his sons, both of Smithsburg, MD; Damon and partner Connie, Brad and wife Pam; grandchildren Lane and wife Aubry of Albuquerque, NM; Kyle of New York, NY; Kayla and fianc? Dylan of Wilmington, NC and Cole of Smithsburg, MD; brother Ronald Huntzberry, sisters Bertha Olden and husband Don and JoAnn Lawyer and husband Buddy; sisters-in-law Carol Huntzberry, Mary Esther Huntzberry and Dottie Gutshall; brothers-in-law Earl Coffman and Samuel Winters, Jr. and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by brothers Vernon Huntzberry, Jr., Robert Huntzberry, Roger Huntzberry, Sr. and wife Judy, sister Thelma Coffman, sisters-in-law Sharon Huntzberry and Barbara Winters and brother-in-law Kenneth Gutshall.
A visitation for family and friends will be held at J.L. Davis Funeral Home in Smithsburg, MD on Sunday, October 30, 2022, from 2:00-4:00 pm and 6:00-8:00 pm. Service and interment will be private at the convenience of the family. Online condolences may be offered at www.jldavisfh.com.
