Harriet Louise Watring, 79, of Woodbridge, Virginia, passed away on Wednesday, March 31, 2021.
Harriet was born on July 3, 1941 to Helen Kramer Smith and Raymond Smith. She was adopted in 1943 by Ray's sister Mary and her husband Harold Witmer. She spent her childhood in Ashland Ohio where she met and fell in love with her high school sweetheart Glenn M. Watring and they were married in July of 1960. They had their first boy, Scott in Ashland and they moved from Ohio to Northern Virginia in 1961. They initially lived in Alexandria apartments and had their second boy, Mark. In 1966 they moved to a house in Woodbridge and had their third boy, Mike. She started work in 1973 as a teacher's aide at Woodbine School. In 1977 she and Glenn were divorced and she began work for Safeway Food where she worked for 25 years until her retirement.
Harriet was preceded in death by her parents, ex-husband, 1 brother Richard Witmer, 1 sister Peg Danca.
Harriet is survived by three sons, Scott (Tracey) of Fredericksburg, VA; Mark (Summer) of Suwanee, GA; Mike (April) of Manassas, VA; 6 grandchildren, Zack Watring (Megan), Baily Watring, Tommy Watring, Amanda Watring, Jon Walters, Annabel Walters; 1 brother, Chuck Depuy and many other people that she considered family.
Harriet had the unique ability to find humor in many of life's challenges. She loved her family and friends and put them before herself and whenever she saw an opportunity to brighten someone else's day she did it.
Harriet gave everything she had to raise three boys by herself and we are all forever grateful that God put us into her capable hands. She was a bright star in a dark night leading and teaching us to be the best version of ourselves we can be. She accepted us unconditionally and encouraged us to share love, laughter, and joy with our families and not to take ourselves too seriously.
