Harold D. Wallace, 84, of Monterey (formerly of Union Mills) passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 23, 2020 at Fountainview Terrace in LaPorte. He was born on May 6, 1936 in Clay, KY to the late Tommy and Virginia [Owen] Wallace. After graduating from High School in Kentucky, Harold moved to Gary to find work. Not only did he accomplish that; he met the love of his life, Nancy L. Campbell. They were married on March 23, 1957 in Hebron. She passed away on September 10, 2010. Harold was a former member of the Union Mills Lion's Club and a former volunteer fireman for the Noble Township Volunteer Fire Department. Harold retired after 30 years from Bethlehem Steel in 1994 as a Millwright Foreman. Harold and Nancy moved to Monterey after retirement. They spent every summer at Nelson Lake in Hayward, WI and many winters in Zephyrhills, FL. Harold was well known as a local expert around Nelson Lake when it came to finding fishing holes. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and building birdhouses. Harold loved his family & friends and was always willing to help others. He will be sadly missed. The family wishes to thank Debra McCombe and the staff of Fountainview Terrace for faithfully caring for our father on his journey to the great fishing hole in the sky. Harold is survived by his 4 children, Karen Wallace, Mark (Debra McCombe) Wallace, Michael (Dollie) Wallace, and Richard (Donna) Wallace; 4 grandchildren, Amanda (Lou Young) Wallace, Courtney (Jack) Granger, Scott (Kim) Bailey, and Jason (Joy) Jurgenson; 9 Great Grandchildren; 1 sister, JoNell (David) Kyler; 1 Sister-in-law, Elsie Wallace; as well as Several Nieces and Nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Tommy and Virginia [Owen] Wallace; his wife, Nancy L. [Campbell] Wallace; and 1 brother, David Wallace. Visitation 12 Noon - 4 PM EDT Sunday, September 27, 2020 at Frain Mortuary in Winamac. Services 11 AM EDT Monday, September 28, 2020 at Frain Mortuary with Pastor Jay Loucks. Private Burial will take place at Riverside Memorial Cemetery in Monterey. Memorial Contributions may be made to Monterey Tippecanoe Township Volunteer Fire Department in Monterey, IN or Lambs Chapel in LaPorte. Online Tributes may be offered at www.frainmortuary.com.
