Harold William Taylor, 99, of Indian Land, SC, formerly of Lexington, SC, passed away on Friday, March 12, 2021. He was a son of the late Maxey and Virgie Taylor of Gilbert, SC.
Harold retired in 1988 from Burlington Industries in Batesburg, SC after 35 year of service. He was a World War II veteran in the U.S. Army as a tank driver with the 628th Tank Destroyer Battalion. During his time, he served in Northern France and Central Europe. It was in Germany that he was wounded and received the Purple Heart plus numerous other medals. Harold was always very proud that he was able to serve his country.
In addition to his parents, Harold was preceded in death by his wife, Inez Johns Taylor of Indian Land, SC; five brothers, Brice Taylor, Gernie Taylor, Oneal Taylor, Paul Taylor and Herman Taylor; and three sisters, Geneva Taylor Shealy, Gertrude Taylor Kyzer and Lidia Taylor.
Harold is survived by two stepdaughters, Betty Jean (B.J.) Laney of Indian Land, SC and Dot McKee of Indian Trail, NC; three grandchildren, Dean McIver (Peggy) of Indian Land, SC, Lisa McKee of Indian Trail, NC and Robin Sossamon (Kenny) of Matthews, NC; four great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; and one brother, Duman Taylor (Walesta) of Swasea, SC.
There will be a private graveside service with military honors at Sharon Memorial Park in Charlotte, NC on Wednesday, March 17, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. with Kenny Sossamon officiating.
